The Bevo neighborhood is bordered by railroad on the east, Carondelet Park, So. Kingshighway and Chippewa. It is located in the central south end of the city.
With strong neighborhood and improvement associations, the neighborhood is a wonderful family area with strong values. It is one of the city’s best maintained as can be seen in the homes and streets. Houses are a mix of brick and frame. There is a mixture of style and type from the grand homes of Holly Hills to the Dutch-style homes to large multi-family and the two-family.
The name comes from the Bevo Mill landmark built in 1917 at Morgan Ford and Gravois. Bevo was the brand name of a popular beer manufactured by Anheuser-Busch and the story is that the Mill was built to accommodate Adolphus Busch as it was a halfway mark between the downtown brewery and his home.
Today the area is a large Bosnian and Croatian neighborhood and you’ll find the culture abounds in the many stores and restaurants.
