Founded in 1767 and a separate community until 1870, Carondelet was first settled by Creoles, French and Canadians. By far the largest concentration of mid 19th century stone houses can be found in Carondelet. Fine craftsmanship, clean lines and individual nuances add subtle variety to these vernacular houses built by Irish and German immigrants.
